Politics

Different types of political systems have been used by political groups to run countries. One of the oldest political systems in the world is a monarchy. A single person ruled the country and his (or her) leadership was obeyed. On his or her death the heir become the next ruler of the country. This system of politics still exists in some countries.

The other (and today the most popular) system of politics is the democratic system. In this system people elect their representatives, who in turn elect the president of the country; he or she provides leadership to the country. In some countries the president may only be a figurehead ruler of the country. The real powers are with the prime minister. The powers of the president depend on the system of politics adopted by that country. Democratic systems of politics are dependent on their being a representation of a majority party and an opposition party in the parliament. The role of the opposition is to ensure that the ruling party works for the betterment of the country.

The third system of politics is the communist system. In this, representatives of a single party rule the country headed by a president and there is no opposition party. USSR, China, Cuba and now Russia still follow the communist form of government. Another form of politics is where a dictator from the military or a civilian overthrows the presential government and starts to rule the country by force. This type of dictatorial rule is still quite common in some of the third world countries.

The system of politics of a country draws up a constitution, which is the framework that tells a citizen of their rights in the country. The constitution also dictates the powers of each office of the government. The American and French government follows the presidential form of government and the British follow the prime minister form of government. The difference in these two forms of government is that the leadership of the country is provided either by the president or the prime minister. In the United Kingdom the Queen of England is the figurehead ruler of the country.

The democratic form of politics is the most popular form of governments in most countries of the world. Some families thrive on politics and prepare their children to enter politics. Like businesses require businessmen to run the business, similarly countries require politicians to manage the affairs of the country and manage its politics. Politics and the study of political systems form the curriculum of a number of educational institutions around the world.
